Brien Strancar Blown Glass Murrini Footed Bowl #2

Sold Out

Murrini refers to a multicolored element embedded in glass.  This bowl features purple oval inspired murrini elements on a surrounding green and clear glass background with pink, orange and blue decorative elements presented on a shallow bowl, which invites the viewer to explore the exciting interaction between color, pattern and form.

The murrini were made by creating colored cups, which are then nestled one into another to build subtle layers of color.  After being heated and stretched from a thick log to a long thin cane, the glass is cooled and the murrini are cut and coldworked  to create a thick, flat faced coin of color.  The murrini are then fused into a sheet, rolled onto a blowpipe and formed into a bubble.  By leaving the murrini thick, they create additional depth and interest within the object formed as the more transparent and more opaque colors shift within the wall of the vessel.

The bowl is approximately 2 inches tall and 8 and one-half inches wide at its rim.  It is signed by the artist.  The vase is accompanied by a Certificate of Provenance attesting to your ownership of an original work of art.
